ADI Course Exam Process
Here is a brief outline of what is involved in the exam process.
ADI Part 1 - Theory Test and Hazard Awareness
100 questions to be answered in 90 minutes on a touch screen computer. Overall pass mark 85%. Minimum of 80% in each of the four bands. No limit to the amount of attempts taken. Topics covered are: Car control, Basic mechanical knowledge, Highway Code, instruction techniques. The hazard awareness test is also done on a touch screen computer, and the minimum pass mark for this is 57 out of a possible 75. As many attempts as necessary are allowed at this exam, but most do pass first time with high marks when they do a course with 1st Impressions.
ADI Part 2 - Advanced Driving Test
The test is in two stages. The first stage is the eye sight test, where you are to read a number plate from a distance of 27.5 metres "old style number plate", or "26.5 new style number plates". The second stage is the advanced driving test. It requires you to drive in a business like manner for a period of approximately one hour around routes with varying speed limits, and to carry out all the reverse exercises. A maximum of six driver errors are accepted, and only three attempts are allowed at this test.
ADI Part 3 - Your Test of Ability to Instruct
The test is what it says, "Your ability to instruct and inspire a learner driver". The learner driver will be role played by the Supervisor Examiner.
The test is split in two halves. The first ½ hour session the SE will act as a beginner/novice driver and you will be asked to teach him the chosen subject.
The second ½ hour session the SE will role play a pupil who is near test standard. For this you need to adapt your tuition to suit the level of the pupil being role played. To obtain a pass mark you need to obtain a grade 4 on both of the ½ hourly sessions. Only three attempts are allowed at this exam.
